The exhibition 'Art of Manga,' where visitors can appreciate the charm of manga, is currently being held at the Brooklyn Museum. This exhibition began last year at the de Young Museum in San Francisco, and now a similar exhibit has arrived on the East Coast. A total of 658 works are on display, with special attention given to their arrangement.

Arrangements to Highlight Artists

Curator Nicole Coolidge Rousmaniere says, 'The Brooklyn Museum truly showcases each artist beautifully by highlighting their individual characteristics.' Unlike the San Francisco exhibition, the use of space differs, and it became a challenge to position the works in the distinctive rooms built around 1900.

Joan Cummins from the Brooklyn Museum also states, 'It was difficult to match artworks to spaces of varying heights.' Additionally, arranging not to place rival artists next to each other was an important point, with separating male and female artists serving as one possible solution.

Discovering New Exhibits

This time, new works added specifically for the Brooklyn exhibition include the particularly noteworthy short story 'A Hundred-Year Legacy.' This piece depicts the moving reunion of a dog and its owner during wartime. Also featured is a pre-exhibition collection titled 'Manga Before Manga,' allowing visitors to see the influence of traditional ukiyo-e prints and illustrated scrolls on contemporary manga.

Cosplay is Welcome

The Brooklyn Museum exhibition encourages cosplay beyond Halloween. Visitors can fully immerse themselves in the world of manga by embodying various characters. The exhibition runs from October 3, 2026, to January 31, 2027.
