Katsuhisa Higuchi Embarks on a New Adventure
The new JRPG Eternal Anima, unveiled at the pre-event for Tokyo Game Show 2026, is gaining attention. This game is directed by Katsuhisa Higuchi and developed with former colleagues and veteran JRPG developers.
The Theme is 'Legacy'
The theme of Eternal Anima is 'legacy,' depicting a story of navigating between past and present to safeguard the continent's continuity. Players explore how altering past events can influence the future.
The Reunion of Veterans
The development includes participation from Kazushige Nojima and Hitoshi Sakimoto, who previously worked together at Square. Higuchi states that reuniting with them presented a great opportunity to freely exchange new ideas during production.
Distinctive Combat System and Characters
Eternal Anima employs a unique combat system called 'Future Sight Battle,' an evolution from traditional turn-based battles, offering a fresh experience for JRPG fans. Additionally, the character setting of the protagonist Wade brings an adult depth, allowing a wide range of players to empathize.
The Challenges and Struggles of Production
Adjustments in the visual aspect were a significant challenge. Initially, a bright and cute style was adopted, but trial and error continued until settling on the current style after readjusting character body types and color schemes.
Higuchi and Producer Makoto Shiota aim to deeply explore the theme of 'legacy' and emphasize the uniqueness of the work through the game. Their message is the importance of inheriting and continuing the wisdom humanity has accumulated.
