The gender ratio of respondents was roughly equal, with age groups of those under 19 and those in their 30s making up a similar proportion.
1st Place: Sadaharu from Gintama
Topping the list is Sadaharu from Gintama. This giant white dog appears as the Yorozuya's pet in the series, boasting a 12% support rate and securing the number one spot for the second consecutive year. Many readers praised, "Big, fluffy, and cute! His antics with the protagonists are charming." His true form is that of a mythical inugami, adding depth beyond just a pet, which seems to be a key reason for his popularity.
2nd Place: Komugi Inukai from Wonderful PreCure!
Securing second place is Komugi Inukai/Cure Wonderful from Wonderful PreCure! Transformed to protect her owner, she’s loved as a character with both canine and PreCure qualities. The survey highlighted her "innocent yet loyal personality" as adorable, leading her to climb up from last year’s third place.
3rd Place: Inuyasha from Inuyasha
Taking third place is Inuyasha, the protagonist of the popular anime Inuyasha. His unique setting as a half-demon, along with the comedic "Sit!" exchanges with the heroine, were highlights for fans. He remains one of the beloved characters over the years.
Other Notable "Dog Characters"
Among the top 10 are other notable characters like Shiro from Crayon Shin-chan, Bond Forger from SPY×FAMILY, and Momiji Inubashiri from Touhou Project. Beyond cuteness, the unwavering loyalty toward their master or companions is also a charm of dog characters.
