The live-action series "The Remarried Empress" centers on the relationship between Empress Navier of the Eastern Empire and Emperor Sovieshu. Their marriage has lasted for many years, based on friendship rather than love, with Navier dutifully fulfilling her role as empress. However, the situation drastically changes when Sovieshu introduces the runaway slave Rashta as his official mistress.
The Struggle of Empress Navier
The early episodes of the live-action drama focus on the marriage life of Navier and Sovieshu, depicting Sovieshu's frustration at their childless situation. With Rashta's arrival, Navier is subjected to humiliation, testing her endurance. Although Rashta's background as a runaway slave evokes sympathy from the audience, her actions begin to seem conspiratorial as the story progresses.
The Plot of Betrayal and a New Encounter
Sovieshu's affection for Rashta leads to a series of betrayals against Navier, making his actions distasteful to the audience. Navier's only solace is Prince Heinrey of the Western Kingdom, the only high-ranking person who supports her. Their encounters often include humor, easing the tension.
Luxurious Setting and Costumes
The setting and costumes are reminiscent of the opulence of the Palace of Versailles, featuring timeless fashion of each character. Despite the top-notch sets and costumes, the inconsistencies in the historical background might confuse some viewers. Nevertheless, the story and character appeal remain the drama's strength.
Navier's genuine smile is only seen during her interactions with her friend, the bird Queen, gradually revealing her inner turmoil. The core of the story is powered by her search for personal salvation.
