At Anime NYC, Kodansha USA revealed its new manga licensing acquisitions and release plans. Among these, the spotlight was on the new horror title 'Trapped on Tape!' and the English print release of the long-beloved Japanese sports manga 'Hajime no Ippo.'
New Horror Manga 'Trapped on Tape!'
'Trapped on Tape!' is a horror manga by TNSK, scheduled for a fall release. The story begins when a lively city girl, Jun Makino, enjoys her adventure in the countryside and discovers an old VHS tape and a sentient camcorder. This "ancient" technology spurs Jun into new adventures, involving her in a mission to exorcise ghosts lurking in the countryside.
The work captivates readers with its unique character design and rich depictions, blending sweetness, humor, fear, and the joy of discovery.
English Print Release of 'Hajime no Ippo'
Meanwhile, the English print release of 'Hajime no Ippo' is also making headlines. The original work by George Morikawa has sold over 100 million copies and has influenced multiple anime series. The upcoming English version is planned to be released in an omnibus format, containing three Japanese volumes in one.
The story depicts the protagonist, Ippo Makunouchi, training at the Kamogawa Boxing Gym as he progresses on his path as a professional boxer. This release will greatly expand the appeal of the series among English speakers who have only been able to read it digitally until now.
New Lineup from 'Kodansha Print Club' Also Growing
Additionally, new titles will continue to debut from 'Kodansha Print Club,' including 'Yaiteru Futari' and 'Abe-kun ni Nerawarete Masu.' Each offers a unique story, providing readers with fresh experiences across a variety of genres.
