Announcement of Manga Mirai's Service Shutdown
The digital manga distribution service 'Manga Mirai' has been continuing its operations but has officially announced that it will cease its service on December 15 this year.
This service was launched in March 2025 in the United States and has been supported by many users.
Details on the Transfer and Refund of Purchased Titles
Users can transfer the manga they have purchased to another service called MangaPlaza, which is operated by NTT Solmare. This transfer procedure must be completed by September 30. It has also been announced that refunds will be available for titles that MangaPlaza does not have a license for, or for users under the age of 18, or for those who do not wish to transfer their account information.
Background and Future of Manga Mirai
Manga Mirai was jointly developed by Media Do, NTT Docomo, Akatsuki Group, and MyAnimeList. At the launch, it aimed to provide English versions of famous manga series and original works, both domestic and international, offering a new discovery platform for manga and anime fans. It also collaborated with MyAnimeList to provide a user-friendly platform.
The system of Manga Mirai was developed and maintained by Akatsuki Group, and Media Do collaborated with publishers and translation companies to introduce new series. However, Media Do announced in March 2025, shortly after the launch, that it had sold its shares in MyAnimeList to Gaudiy. This shutdown amid such a background has shocked many users.
