'Starting from Improvisation: My Own Style Swordsmanship' is based on Kuju's light novel and was adapted into a manga by Kamimura Riddle. The story revolves around the protagonist Rio, who lives in a border town. Rio attempts to learn swordsmanship for self-defense at the town's training center but becomes disillusioned with their teaching.
A protagonist choosing his own path
Though disappointed, Rio decides that he needs to learn something in order to live in the dangerous border town. He resolves to acquire swordsmanship through his own unique methods and pursues this path.
The manga began serialization on Mag Garden's website 'Magcomi' in June 2023. The series concluded with 26 episodes last Friday, and the company is releasing the fourth volume of the collected edition in October 2025.
Development from the original novel
The original story by Kuju was serialized on the website 'Shousetsuka ni Narou' between 2021 and 2022. Kadokawa published the first volume as a book in April 2022 and has since released subsequent volumes.
Kamimura Riddle also serialized another manga titled 'Heroic Rescued Kitten and Ex-Yakuza' on Mag Garden's 'MAGxiv' from August 2020 to September 2022. This work also garnered support from many readers.
